Republican Lawmakers Intensify Legal Threats Against Target
Target has not yet commented on either letters, but it did share that its employees have encountered threats during this time.
Republicans are intensifying their legal challenges against Target.
The retailer is facing pressure to remove merchandise that supports transgender customers and is being pushed to back-track its attempts to intertwine additional diversity in their stores.
Last week, Republican Attorneys Generals in seven states sent a letter to Target warning that merchandise in its Pride month product collection could violate their states’ child protection laws. The written warning followed an Anti-LGBTQ campaign against Target that went viral on social media.
A separate letter was sent to the retailer by Arkansas GOP Senator Tom Cotton last week, who said the company’s diversity pledge to increase African American employees by 20% and invest over $2 billion in black-owned businesses was racially discriminatory.
Target has not yet commented on either letters, but it did share that its employees have encountered threats during this time.
