OceanGate announced it is suspending all exploration and commercial operations after its Titan submersible imploded with five people aboard.
The company was founded in 2009 and offered tourists the opportunity to explore deep parts of the ocean on submersibles for a close look at ship wrecks and underwater canyons. OceanGate has conducted more than 14 expeditions and over 200 dives across the Pacific, Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.
On June 18th five people including the company’s CEO set off on a venture to see the Titanic wreckage site and lost contact with the shore nearly two hours in. Remnants of the ‘Titan’ submersible were found after several days of rescue missions.
The company has now announced its suspension in a banner on its website.
