Missing Submersible Debris Suggests The Vessel Likely Imploded
Crews intend to remain on the scene to continue investigating what went wrong and gather more information.
On Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that the missing Titan submersible likely imploded.
Officials discovered evidence of debris near the site of the Titanic shipwreck.
The vessel appears to have had a “catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” which caused it to implode in the ocean’s depths shattering 1,600 feet away from where the wreckage of the Titanic sits on the ocean floor 12,500 feet below the surface.
The five passengers aboard the ‘Titan’ are all presumed dead.
It is unclear if the incident occurred when the submersible lost contact or after.
Crews intend to remain on the scene to continue investigating what went wrong and gather more information.
