House Passes Bill That Could Block Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program
The bill would leave 40 million student loan borrowers with past-due balances plus, new interest charges.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill that could block President Biden’s student debt forgiveness program.
The ‘Congressional Review Act’ was passed by a vote of 218 to 203, with at least two Democratic Representatives supporting the legislation.
The bill would require the Education Department to reverse months of waived interest charges that was part of the federal response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It would also prevent the president’s plan to cancel $20 thousand dollars worth of student debt, regardless of how the Supreme Court rules on the legality of the program.
The bill would leave 40 million student loan borrowers with past-due balances plus, new interest charges.
The president has promised to veto the legislation if it is passed by the Senate.
