HGTC Offers New Boat Building Program

HGTC is in the process of having a new building built on the Georgetown campus that will house the new program and its Outboard Marine Technology program.

Horry Georgetown Technical College has announced a new program that will be the first of its kind in South Carolina.

On Monday, the HGTC Commission held a special meeting where they approved a new boat-building program. It will be offered starting this fall on Georgetown’s campus and will last three semesters.

It took several years for the school to develop the program with assistance from the S.C. Boating and Fishing Alliance.

There are currently 30 boat-building companies in the state and around 800 job openings for boat builders are expected over the next five years.
