Two Staffers Of Democratic Congressman Attacked While At Work

The suspect allegedly suffers from schizophrenia and has been previously charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Virginia Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, said two staffers were injured on Monday by a man armed with a baseball bat

49-year-old Xuan Pham allegedly entered Connolly’s office and struck one senior aide in the head with a metal bat and also hit an intern on her first day on the job, in the side. Both aides were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pham was arrested and now faces charges for one count of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of malicious wounding.

The suspect’s motivation is unclear at this time and an investigation has been opened into the incident.

Investigators do know that Pham suffers from schizophrenia and has been previously charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer.
