FDA Approved Over-The-Counter Opioid Overdose Treatment

The Food and Drug Administration has approved an over-the-counter version of an opioid overdose reversal drug.
Previously, ‘Naxolone’ has only been sold by drug-maker ‘Emergent BioSolutions’ under the brand name ‘Narcan’ and was available in the united states only as a prescription drug.

The over-the-counter ‘Narcan’ will be sold as a single dose in nasal spray form. It’s expected to hit shelves by late summer.
The FDA’s approval is said to help improve access to Narcan, increase the number of location’s where it’s available, and help reduce opioid overdose deaths throughout the U.S..
