DeSantis Signs Bill Allowing More Control Over Disney’s Special District

The bill amounts to a state takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is the government body that has given Disney special powers in Central Florida for over half-a-century.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill yesterday that gives him new power.

The bill amounts to a state takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is the government body that has given Disney special powers in Central Florida for over half-a-century.

The new legislation hands control over Disney’s Special District to DeSantis, who said, “The Corporate Kingdom finally comes to an end. There’s a new sheriff in town and accountability will be the order of the day.”

The new law allows the governor to replace the district’s existing board with a five-member body that he picks out himself.

DeSantis announced his appointments to the reconstructed board include Martin Garcia, a lawyer and Republican donor who contributed money to DeSantis’ re-election, and Bridget Ziegler, a school board member who co-founded the Moms for Liberty Conservative organization.

The new board is set to meet next week.
