The first-term Democratic senator has suffered from depression throughout his life, but an increase in severity instigated him to reach out for professional help.

Fetterman is receiving care at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center voluntarily. He checked himself in after an evaluation was conducted by “Attending Physician” of the U.S. Congress, Brian Monahan.

The Democratic senator has experienced several health issues before such as a stroke, and he was recently hospitalized for lightheadedness.

Fetterman’s wife took to Twitter and posted that she is proud of him for asking for help and getting the care he needs.
