EzriCare Eye Drops Recalled For Possible Contamination

Reports include infection of the cornea, intraocular fluids, respiratory tract and urinary tract, as well as sepsis.

Global Pharma Healthcare has announced a recall of its Artificial Tears Lubricant eye drops.

The products were distributed by EzriCare and Delsam Pharma and a recall has been placed due to possible contamination.

The drops were sold online across the U.S. in multi-dose bottles. The CDC is investigating 55 reports of infections, in 12 states that are possibly connected to the products. One death has been recorded so far.

Reports include infections of the cornea, intraocular fluids, respiratory tract and urinary tract, as well as sepsis. Some cases resulted in permanent vision loss or hospitalization.

Testing of opened EzriCare bottles discovered bacteria that could have come from contamination either during use or during the manufacturing process.

An investigation is still on-going and people with the products are advised to stop use and throw them out immediately.
