Man Charged After 21 Dogs Were Seized

The animals were chained and in dog houses that were not raised and did not have proper draining systems.

A man has been charged after a stray dog call led to an investigation that revealed a bigger situation.

On January 27th, an officer responded near Merritt Road for a call about a stray dog. After the officer arrived, they discovered a hound dog.

While in the area, the officer discovered 21 more canines that were in pens and tied up. The animals were chained and in dog houses that were not raised and did not have proper draining systems.

The situation was a violation of a tethering ordinance. All 21 dogs were seized.

Herbert Dozier has been charged in the investigation. He was previously charged with similar circumstances for the same living conditions for animals in August of last year.

The Horry County Animal Care Center was temporarily closed on Tuesday to assist Horry County Police in the animal investigation. The center has now re-opened.
