Demonstrators Marched For Tyre Nichols

Police released body-cam footage of what happened during the arrest of 29-year-old, Tyre Nichols.

Over the weekend, thousands of protestors filled the streets across the U.S. after a video was released to the public.

Police released body-cam footage of what happened during the arrest of 29-year-old, Tyre Nichols. The audio captured Nichols calling out for his mother.

The incident started with a traffic stop and led to a foot chase after Nichols attempted to flee the scene. When he was captured, the video shows police officers forcing violence on to the man with batons, along with punching him, and kicking him. At one point of the attack, Nichols hands were restrained behind his back as the beating continued. He was left on the ground for 23 minutes before an ambulance arrived and he was transported to a hospital where he later died.

The public release of the video resulted in demonstrators marching through New York, Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland, along with other cities across the Nation.

Meanwhile, a sixth Memphis police officer has been relieved of duty after the traffic stop that led to Nichols’ death. The department identified the officer as Preston Hemphill and the investigation into his involvement is on-going.
