Officials are attempting to settle on a “reasonable and responsible” way to lift the debt ceiling.

House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy said he is looking forward to addressing spending cuts along with raising the debt limit. The White House has disagreed to linking the two issues together while the government attempts to avoid a potential financial default.

McCarthy pledged that cuts to Social Security and Medicare would be off the table.

President Biden said he is willing to strengthen his work relationship with McCarthy while discussing the speaker’s plans on spending.

This meeting be the first time the two sit down at the White House since McCarthy was elected for the speaker position.
