U.S. Debt Ceiling Debate In The White House

Republicans expressed they want concessions on spending cuts from the White House and Democrats before agreeing to any extension of the debt ceiling.

A debate over whether to increase the United States borrowing limit is now underway between lawmakers. The country reached its technical borrowing limit of nearly $31.4 trillion last week.

The Treasury has promised to enact “extraordinary measures” to be able to pay the government’s bills until around June.

Republicans expressed they want concessions on spending cuts from the White House and Democrats before agreeing to any extension of the debt ceiling.

The White House said it will not negotiate on the issue. Durbin warned that the U.S. is at risks of causing a recession if lawmakers do not find a resolution to the debt limit situation.
