Suspect Opened Fire Before Barricading In A Home

The standoff lasted for 3 hours before the suspect finally surrendered and was detained.

New details have been released on the incident where a suspect barricaded himself in a home and caused residents to evacuate an apartment complex.

Scotland County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to attempt a welfare check at Gibson Manor Apartments when they encountered shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene around 11p.m. Sunday night.

58-year-old, Ralph Goins, opened fire and barricaded himself in an apartment after deputies fired back. The standoff lasted for 3 hours before Goins finally surrendered and was detained.

Goins is charged with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm, and misdemeanor stalking. He remains at the Scotland County Detention Center on a $604 thousand unsecured bond.

No injuries were reported during the barricade or standoff.
