Griner Calls On Fans To Write Paul Whelan

Whelan, the former U.S. Marine has been detained in Russia on charges of suspicious spying since 2018.

Brittney Griner asked her fans to write letters to Paul Whelan.

Griner was recently released from a Russian prison through a prison swap with the U.S. who released a Russian arms dealer for Griner’s freedom.

The prisoner swap between Griner and Vikto Bout, was a “one or none” deal.

The U.S. shared that they cannot give Russia what they are asking for in regards to Whelan’s release.

Griner called on her fans to support Whelan during his time of serving in a Russian prison by writing him letters such as the ones she received during her time that showed the “power of collective hands.”

The WNBA star said, “I hope you will join me in writing to Paul Whelan and continuing to advocate for other Americans to be rescued and returned to their families.”
