A Legislation Could Ban TikTok In The U.S.

Warnings from the FBI director and Cyber-security said that China could use TikTok for spying and learn sensitive data about Americans.

A legislation has been introduced that could ban TikTok in the United States.

A group of lawmakers in the House and Senate presented a bill that would “protect Americans by blocking and prohibiting all transactions from any social media company in or under the influence of China, Russia, and several other countries of concern.”

Warnings from the FBI director and Cyber-security said that China could use TikTok for spying and learn sensitive data about Americans as well as spread influence campaigns or propaganda.

Under the bill, the president could force sanctions on TikTok that would prevent commercial operation in the United States.

Earlier this month, several states already took steps to prohibit the use of the app on government devices.

A TikTok spokesperson said that the concerns are fueled by misinformation about the company and they are open to meet with policy makers to discuss the privacy and security practices of the social media platform.
