Man Sentenced To Nearly A Decade For Shootout Incident

The man pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

A man was sentenced to nearly a decade in prison for his participation in a gang related shootout.

21-year-old, Dewon Cole, will face 8 years in prison for the incident that occurred on Ocean Boulevard in 2020 that left one person injured.

On January 25th of this year, Cole pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. This offense is considered a violent and serious no-parole felony which means Cole will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.

Prior to the incident, Cole had no criminal record and was in the u-s navy at the time of the shooting.

Eight other people have been arrested in connection to the shootout and all others have pleaded guilty and have been sentenced as well or will be in the future.
