DHEC Predicts This Flu Season Could Be Severe

It is suggested this flu season could be severe and actions to stay protected are urged.

A South Carolina child has died from complications of the flu. The loss of this child from the midlands region is the first pediatric flu-related death of the season.

The South Carolina DHEC says the flu can circulate any time of the year but the season begins October 1st. Though it is still early in the season, a widespread of flu activity has been reported since the first week.

People 65 and older, young children as well as those with underlying medical conditions are at increased risk of complications from the flu. It is unpredictable how flu complications could impact young and previously healthy people.

DHEC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older who is eligible, to get vaccinated.
