The stampede resulted in at least 153 deaths and 133 injured.
What was intended to be a fun night full of Halloween festivities, turned into a horrifying tragedy in South Korea.
In the nightlife district of Itaewon, a huge party crowd surged into a narrow alley. The stampede resulted in at least 153 deaths and 133 injured. Nearly 97 were women, 56 were men and over 80% among the dead were in their 20’s and 30’s, at least four were teenagers. Two American college students, Anne Gieske and Steven Blessi, were killed during the chaos.
It is unclear what caused the stampede to start, but it was explained that a series of pushing and shoving broke out among the crowd. Witnesses said it became hard to breath and people fell on each other “like dominoes”.
The stampede is the countries deadliest disaster since 2014.
