Biden Administration’s Student Debt Relief Plan Has Been Put To A Halt

Six Republican-led states are challenging the administration.

On Monday, The Justice Department addressed an appeals court and stated that the Biden Administration should be allowed to follow through with its student debt relief program.

Six Republican-led states are challenging the administration. It was argued that there were legitimate procedural flaws with the challenger’s case. The DOJ claimed that the challenge is “based on speculation about possible downstream economic effects.”

Last week, a district court threw out the Republican-led case due to lack of evidence to prove how they will suffer direct harm from the program. The challengers filed an appeal and the program was placed on administrative hold.

The Biden Administration is facing many other lawsuits while it is argued that they do not have the legal authority to broadly cancel student loan debt.
