Proud Boys Member Pleads Guilty To Seditious Conspiracy
On Thursday, a top lieutenant to the Proud Boys leader, pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy in federal court.
43-year-old, Jeremy Bertino, is cooperating with the Justice Department’s investigation into the Far Right Extremist group. He is the first member of the Proud Boys to plead guilty to the conspiracy. He also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He could spend over 5 years in prison but a sentencing date has not been set. Bertino’s next hearing is scheduled for February 2023. He will not be held in jail. However, he is not permitted a passport nor firearms, and will not be allowed to return to Washington unless it is to meet with prosecutors or participate in court proceedings. Bertino was not present for the capitol riot on January 6th, but his involvement in Proud Boys leadership presumes that he could provide crucial testimony for prosecutors in the Proud Boys seditious conspiracy trial that is set for December of this year.
