Four Charged With Civil Rights Violations in Breonna Taylor Raid
Four current and former Louisville Police Officers involved in the killing of Breonna Taylor have been charged federally. The civil rights violations and other counts mark the first federal counts leveled against any of the officers involved in the raid. Former Detective Joshua Jaynes, Detective Kelly Goodlett and Sergeant Kyle Meany were charged with submitting a false affidavit to serve the home ahead of the raid and then working together to create a ‘false cover story’ in an attempt to escape responsibility for their roles. Ex-Detective Brett Hankison allegedly used ‘unconstitutionally excessive force when he fired his weapon into the apartment.’ He is charged with depriving Taylor and a guest in her home of their constitutional rights. He also faces three charges of depriving three of Taylor’s neighbors of their rights as well.
