Supreme Court Overturns Roe V. Wade

The Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade this morning. With that ruling, there is no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion and abortion rights will be determined by states, unless Congress acts. Currently almost half of the states have or will pass laws that ban abortion while others have enacted strict measures regulating the procedure. Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan criticized the majority saying “With sorrow — for this court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection — we dissent.” The final opinion was similar to the draft written by Justice Samuel Alito that was leaked earlier this year.
