Local Author Gives Back to the Community and the Gift of Gratitude…These are Our Carolina Kindness Stories
We invite you to do something kind today, whether it’s an act of service or just a kind word, your one deed has the potential to change lives.
Each Wednesday we bring you stories of all the good around us. We begin Florence, where a box is helping people across the globe including in Ukraine, Syria and Yemen. It’s called the Shelter Box and contains things like tents, cookware, lights, water, things people need when they’ve become displaced. It’s hand-delivered to families impacted by natural disaster and conflict. Each box costs about $1,000. It’s one of the largest rotary club projects in the world and the Florence Rotary got on board to sponsor five of these boxes. It’s a way we can help those across the globe and even in our hometowns. Hurricane Katrina and Harvey victims have benefitted.
Serving and giving back is what helps communities like ours thrive. A New York Times best-selling author is doing just that for Horry County. Kristin Harmel is heading to Conway this Saturday to help raise money for childhood literacy. She is a bestselling author of more than a dozen novels and is also the cofounder and co-host of the popular web series, Friends & Fiction. Kristin is helping our area children by participating in the “Team First Book of Horry County” that raises thousands of dollars to help purchase new books for under served children in our area. If you are interested in the event, you can meet her at a luncheon at the Wild Wing Plantation.
This youngster shows his appreciation to his UPS driver in the perhaps the sweetest way. He anticipates Miss Teresa’s arrival each week and this time he met her with his own delivery dressed to twin with his favorite driver. He created this very personalized picture of how he sees her…delivering and making people’s days. This reminds us how one act of kindness can brighten someone’s day and give a boost of appreciation that go well beyond the day.
