Democratic Lawmakers Won’t Give Up After Manchin Reverses Position on ‘Build Back Better’

They hope to salvage the 2 trillion dollar bill with revisions in order to win his vote.

Yesterday Senator Joe Manchin announced he won’t vote for President Biden’s Build Back Better act. Now, lawmakers say they won’t give up as they hope to salvage the 2 trillion dollar bill with revisions in order to win his vote. The 49 other members of the democratic caucus are ready to move forward and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said “We will keep voting on it until we get something done.” Manchin said he was most concerned that the bill was adding to the more than 28 trillion dollar national debt. Also, that it could fuel already skyrocketing inflation. Meanwhile White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, called Manchin’s position a “Breach of his commitments to the President and the Senator’s colleagues.” Congress is now on their holiday break.
