Coronavirus Case Rates Declining Among Adults in the U.S.
Covid-19 cases are declining in the United States but the rate among children remains high. The number of new cases reported among kids last week was 148,222 according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics published on Monday, children represented nearly a quarter of reported Covid-19 cases. according to Johns Hopkins University, nationally, Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths have decreases and over the past week an average of 87,676 people have reported infections and 1,559 people have died per day.
Currently vaccines are only available for children as young as 12 but Pfizer BioNTech have applied for emergency use authorization from the FDA for younger children. Schools across the nation have also been enacting mask mandates, social distancing and testing practices. In Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has deployed 200 members of the National Guard to schools to assist in testing for the virus.
