September is National Preparedness Month. We typically equate that to hurricane season but it’s never too early or late to make a plan for your family for the unexpected of any storm by having some things on hand.  The Home Depot helped out by sharing a list of top things people put in an emergency kit.

  • On-Hand Basics – Batteries, flashlights, lanterns, first-aid kits, duct tape, weather radio, bottled water, and more
  • Secure Outdoor Items – Tie downs will help to ensure outdoor items won’t become flying debris
  • Back-Up Power Source – For some storms, people can be without power for days or weeks. A generator is a great resource to maintain power until it’s restored, and extension cords can provide power from the generator to other items needed
  • Potential Roof Damage – Prepare with weather-resistant polyethylene coating in large sizes, for covering damage after the storm
  • On The Road – If you drive after a storm, there is a higher likelihood of experiencing a flat tire. A tire inflater is the easiest and quickest way to repair a flat tire in an emergency
