Authorities Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in Horry County
SLED is investigating after an officer involved shooting in Horry County. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, a state trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop near SC 905 and SC 22 for an equipment violation. When the trooper tried stopping the car, it sped away on 905 which led to a brief pursuit that ended with the suspect crashing into a utility building on McNeil Chapel Road. The suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot and a ‘struggle ensued’. SLED and SCDPS confirmed the trooper shot the suspect during that confrontation, the trooper was taken to Conway Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and the suspect was also taken to the hospital where they later died. They have not been identified.
