These Thursday Tips will have you stepping out of the house looking clean and sharp, literally attractive. This first tip comes from a viewer on matching socks.
Tip 1. Mary Ann Piento saw this hack online years ago and it came to mind recently when she heard our discussions on the sock monster last week. She explains no need to fret, just pin your socks or anything you want to keep together before washing them. Keep a pack of safety pins by the hamper. When you go to wash they’ll stay together from the washer to the dryer to your drawer. It only takes a few seconds and saves lot of frustration later.
Tip 2. Laundry stripping can brighten your linens. It also takes a little prep but may be worth it. Fill a bathtub with warm water. Mix equal 1/4 cup each of borax, arm and hammer washing soda, and calgon, then 1 scoop of powdered tide. Soak for 4 hours, then wash in the machine.
Tip 3. Keep your collar straight and upright. Use magnetic collar strips to keep your collar in place. This was a tip I learned from our very own Greg Rowles this week. You can get packs of these little magnets, insert them into your shirt and off you go!
Tip 4. Ditch the iron for a wrinkle free spray. This is your teen who refuses to iron. Keep this in their room. There are various brands on the market. All you do is hang your clothing or lay flat, and spray. It should be damp not wet. Gently run your hand over to remove wrinkles. You can make your own with a spray bottle, cup of water, a tablespoon of fabric softener, and shake.
