Eye Yoga May Delay Need for Glasses

More than half of Americans suffer from eye strain. Audra and B.J. have tips to help including eye yoga which may help keep the glasses away!

If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer, or on your smart phone your eyes may be begging for relief.  According to the the American Optometric Association, more than 73% of us suffer from digital eye strain.  Our risk for eye strain is determined by how often and how long we look at screens, if we use multiple devices at once and the proximity of the screen. If you get headaches, your eyes are sore, tired, burning or itchy, even blurred vision, eye strain may be the reason.  Try reading in softer light with led bulbs that don’t flicker, keep 25″ away from the screen, and remember the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes when using a screen, you should try to look away at something that is 20 feet away from you for a at least 20 seconds.   Eye Yoga can also be helpful and can even help improve focusing skills and muscles in the eye.

Exercise 1:
take a pen, shut one eye, move pen away and focus. Do 5 rounds with each eye.
Exercise 2.
Two people stand opposite about 4 to 5 meters away.  Throw a ball.  As soon as the person catches, blink looking at the ball.  When the person throws the ball back to you, blink again.
Exercise 3.  Sit with pillow in lap. Rub hands to generate heat and cup your eyes.  Keep eyes open and count to 20.
