U.S. Birth Rates Drop to Record Low
For the 6th consecutive year, U.S. births have reached a record low.
For the 6th consecutive year, U.S. births have reached a record low. The CDC reported there were 3.6 million births last year, which is down four percent from 2019. The biggest drop in births came in December of last year, which suggests a decline in the number of babies conceived during the earliest days of the pandemic. These numbers are based on provisional data which includes more than 99 percent of birth certificates. Reports show that births have been declining in younger women while rates for women in their late 30s and in their 40s have been going up. But, not in 2020. The last year that births were booming was in 2007. That year the U.S. recorded 4.3 million. According to reports from the CDC, about 12 years ago the estimated rate was 2.1 kids per woman in the U.S. But, last year the rate was at 1.6, which is the lowest on record.
