Following Recent Mass Shootings, President Biden Makes Announcement on Gun Control

President Biden will be announcing a series of executive actions on gun control today.
The announcement comes after mass shootings in Georgia and Colorado last month. The President’s orders are expected to tighten restrictions on so-called ghost guns and pistol stabilizing braces that allow weapons to be used more accurately. They will also direct resources toward community violence prevention. While his executive orders address the calls for gun control action that followed last month’s violence, some senior administration officials say they’re just the beginning of the President’s gun control mission.
However, to accomplish his more ambitious goals, such as universal background checks and a possible ban on assault weapons, he’ll need support from an evenly split senate. The President also is likely to nominate a gun control advocate to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Biden’s planned pick for the role is David Chipman, a longtime ATF special agent. The announcements will be made from the White House alongside Attorney General, Merrick Garland.
