Abortion Bill Signed into Law by Gov. McMaster, Immediately Challenged
The Fetal Heartbeat Bill passed by the South Carolina state house was officially signed into law by Governor McMaster yesterday. The legislation would make it illegal to receive an abortion after 6 to 8 weeks except in the cases of rape, incest, fetal anomalies, or if the mother’s life is in danger. Doctors could also face felony charges for performing an abortion after that time. This has been an issue of controversy as many argue most women don’t realize they’re pregnant that early on. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and the Greenville Women’s Clinic have now filed a lawsuit in the South Carolina district court to block the bill, which they claim is unconstitutional.
