North Myrtle Beach Approves Ordinance Against Predatory Towing Practices

The city of North Myrtle Beach approved a new ordinance last night to combat “predatory” towing practices. A police officer is now required to respond to the scene and authorize the towing prior to. The private property owner or agent must also be present. Tow truck companies are further barred from charging fees of any kind other than the owner’s fee to retrieve their vehicle. Any company in violation can have their licenses suspended or revoked. It’s reported around 60% of towing companies are on board with the new order which will go into effect November 1st.
