Surfside Town Council Resumes Pier Construction Bid Talks Amid Lawsuit
Amid an internal legal battle, the Surfside Town Council is once again seeking construction bids to rebuild the city’s pier. The pier was damaged after hurricane Matthew hit in 2016. On July 1st, Orion Marine Construction was awarded the bid for almost 15 million dollars. However, a lawsuit by the mayor and council members against other council members claimed the bid was given out illegally. It was officially rescinded last week. Then last night, the council resumed talks to discuss bid proposals again for a fast approaching construction start date of October 15th. It’s believed the project will take 18 months to complete.
