N.C. Governor Roy Cooper Could Be Facing A Lawsuit
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper could be facing a lawsuit. Yesterday the state’s Lieutenant Governor, Dan Forest wrote in a letter to Cooper that he intends to sue him over his executive orders issued during the Covid-19 pandemic. Forest, a Republican says Cooper issued orders before getting input from the council of state, which is a group of 10 lawmakers that includes the Secretary of State and the Attorney General. The Emergency Management Act requires that the Governor seek and receive concurrence from the council of state before exercising statewide emergency powers. The most recent mandate was made earlier this week on Wednesday when Governor Cooper ordered the wearing of masks in public and extended the second phase of a planned reopening of the state’s economy through July 17th.
