White House Names Two Heads For “Operation Warp Speed”

The White House has named two people to head “Operation Warp Speed”. The operation was created to quickly produce and distribute a coronavirus vaccine once it is made available. Ex-head of GlaxoSmithKline’s vaccines division, Moncef  Slaoui, and four-star Army General Gustave Perna have both been tasked with heading the division which was announced two weeks ago by President Trump. Slaoui was named Chief Adviser and Perna as Chief Operating Officer Overseeing Logistics. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Defense Secretary Mark Esper were initially asked to oversee the effort while more permanent heads were selected. They will remain involved with the effort despite the new announcement. While this is good news, many including Dr. Anthony Fauci, do not believe a vaccine will be made readily available within the year.
