Pentagon Considering Increasing Amount of Troops in Iran
The Pentagon is discussing stationing upwards of 7,000 more troops in Iran as part of an effort to increase their air defense capabilities. This is all due to the increased threat the Pentagon currently perceives in Iran. In November, the Navy intercepted a ship believed to be carrying weapons bound for Yemen. Several European countries, including Germany and France, have outwardly expressed concerns over the capabilities of Iran’s current missile program. There’s been growing unrest and protests in Iran due to large hikes in fuel prices and instability in their economy thanks to President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign. If the Pentagon decides to move forward, they could be sending anywhere between 4,000 to 7,000 troops across seas. Their hope is to strengthen their air defense and prevent potential terrorist attacks via nuclear weapons.
