E. Coli Outbreak Spreads to 19 States
A lettuce recall has expanded to more major retailers, just in time for Thanksgiving. The centers for disease control and prevention reported that the E. Coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce has now spread to 19 states, infecting 67 people. Officials are currently investigating the lettuce that they say was grown in Salinas, California. Warnings are being issued for consumers to avoid eating the lettuce and retailers are pulling the product from their produce shelves.
Those that have been affected range in age from three to 89. 39 of them have had to be hospitalized, with six developing kidney failure. The current outbreak is caused by the same strain in outbreaks linked to romaine in 2017 and 2018.
