Plane Catches Fire After Takeoff

A Philippine Airlines jet made an emergency landing at LAX just after takeoff yesterday, after flames were seen shooting out of its right engine.

Flames were spewing out of the engine as well as plumes of black smoke. There were more than 300 on board the Boeing 7-77 bound for Manila. The FAA says the engine stopped working, but the plane still managed to land safely and no one was injured.

Flashes from the engine were visible even from the ground.  A passenger said it was a rough landing, but he believes the pilot did his best. The FAA is still working to confirm the cause of the engine fire. Philippine Airlines released a statement affirming its commitment to safety as a top priority.
