SC group fly Confederate flags in downtown Charleston in protest

CHARLESTON, SC (WFXB) –  If you’ve been to downtown Charleston in the past couple of days, you may have spotted quite a few Confederate flags. Here’s why.

The Secessionist Party is protesting the College of Charleston’s decision to host Bree Newsome, the woman arrested for climbing the flagpole at the state house and removing the Confederate flag in June of 2015.

The party’s members say they don’t want Newsome speaking at a public college funded in part by taxpayers. Confederate flags were mounted on the back of trucks at the top of parking garages.
