Victory at Standing Rock: DAPL project halted

(CNN) –  It’s a celebration months in the making. The Dakota Access Pipeline easement to cross the Missouri River has been denied.

The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has been at the center of the protests. The tribe has argued the pipeline could compromise its water supply and threaten several cultural sites.

Protesters admit this fight may not be over, as construction on the pipeline will remain on hold as officials ‘explore alternative routes’ for the pipeline crossing.
