‘House of horrors’: Death toll rises in Oakland warehouse fire
OAKLAND, CA (CNN) – Crews still combing through debris from this weekend’s deadly warehouse fire in Oakland, California. We got word from a former tenant — who described the former warehouse as a treacherous death trap.
At least 36 people were killed at Friday night’s electronic dance party, including a teenager and a local sheriff deputy’s son. But with less than half of the building searched, the death toll is expected to rise.
The building was known as the ‘Ghost Ship,’ where many artists lived illegally. Investigators still don’t know what caused the fire, but say the building did not have proper permits nor sprinklers.
