USDA’s food safety tips for Thanksgiving

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WFXB) – This week millions of Americans will gather family and friends around the dinner table to give thanks. and as home cooks are making the largest meals they’ve cooked all year, we have some food safety tips to get you through the holiday.

The USDA says do not wash your turkey, as doing so could cause bacteria to spread up to three feet away. They also recommend using the refrigerator, the cold-water method or the microwave to defrost a frozen turkey.

the USDA adds that the only way to check if a turkey is cooked is with a meat thermometer and don’t store food outside, even if it’s cold.
