Ginn’s Knee a Concern for Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Wide receiver Ted Ginn’s knee may not be as fully healed as initially thought.

Ginn Still

Head coach Ron Rivera said Ginn saw the doctor after Thursday’s practice ‘as a precaution’ after soreness in the speedy wide receiver’s knee crept in. Number 19 is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.

“Hopefully he’s full go,†Rivera said. “We will see how he is tomorrow. He’s just a little tired probably more-so than anything else. Obviously because of the conditioning aspect of it.

When pressed further on the issue, Rivera revealed that the doctor recommended a day off for Ginn. Ginn, who missed the season finale victory over Tampa Bay, led the team in touchdowns (10) and was second in receiving yards (739). Ginn’s ability to stretch defense’s vertically adds an extra element to the Carolina offense.

“One thing is how (defenders) approach him,†Rivera said when asked how the injury might affect the offense. A lot of of things (also) depend on what Mike (Shula) starts off with in terms of personnel group.â€

Ginn told the Charlotte Observer that he plans to play on Sunday.

How effective he will be given the knee injury is another question.
