Olsen: Kuechly > Watt
CHARLOTTE, NC– Panthers tight end Greg Olsen thinks Houston Texans defensive end and MVP candidate J.J. Watt is pretty good.
But he believes teammate Luke Kuechly is the most impactful defensive player in the NFL.
“I know J.J. Watt is a great player, he’s phenomenal, but you can’t find a guy who impacts the game on defense like Luke,” Olsen said of Kuechly. “The run game, the pass game, covering running backs. … I mean the guy is unbelievable.”
Kuechly, the All-Pro middle linebacker who led the NFL in tackles this season, had 10 more tackles and interception in Carolina’s 27-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday.
The Panthers held Arizona to 78 yards, the fewest allowed in NFL postseason history.
“Luke is the best defensive player I have ever played with,” Olsen said of Kuechly, now in his third season. “(Brian) Urlacher was like that. … a similar, dynamic kind of player, but Luke is that good already. He’s phenomenal.”
