Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art
The 2011 Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art, held 9/18-10/02, kicks off with the Wine Gala fundraiser on September 23, followed by 2 weeks of both visual and performing arts. Performing acts include Spyro Gyra, The Kickin Grass Band, Ball in the House, David Osborne Trio, The Hit Men. Visual arts include a Film Festival, Chalk Under the Oaks, a Gallery Crawl, and a performance by the Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theater. Our Festival headliner is the award winning jazz band, Spyro Gyra. For more than three decades, the band has maintained a position at the forefront of modern jazz by successfully managing not just one, but several feats of creative agility. On Sunday afternoon, 9/25, you’ll enjoy the bluegrass sounds of The Kickin Grass Band along with several local bands performing Bluegrass Under the Oaks. And, if you love a cappella performances, Ball in the House (five incredible voices from five incredibly talented vocalists) is a must-see on Thursday evening, 9/29. The David Osborne Trio, a designated Steinway artist, presents Osborne’s dazzling piano technique and style. Often referred to as the “Pianist to the Presidents”, Osborne has entertained White House Presidents Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Obama. The largely popular tabled event will unfold on Saturday evening, 10/1. Plan to dance the night away to music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s from the much anticipated performance of The Hit Men. On Sunday, 10/2, the Festival will conclude with an all day Family Event highlighting our 2nd Annual Chalk Under The Oaks sidewalk chalking contest for amateur and professional artists. Back by popular demand, the Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theater returns to the Lowcountry stage with “The Musical Tale of Peter Rabbit”, a musical escapade of singing, dancing and enormous fun showcasing their fabulous nine foot giant puppets. Please visit our website, www.pawleysmusic.com, weekly as we continue to add the Visual Art pieces to our performance schedule with such popular events as the Film Festival, Gallery Crawl, as well as a few new exciting events.
