Carolina Panthers; First Professional Football Team To Use COVID-19 Killing UV Ray Robot

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panther officials say amid the COVID-19 crisis they debuted the Xenex LightStrike Robot, that disinfects rooms of the virus that causes COVID with ultraviolet light, at their home game against the Cardinals on October 4th.

The germ-zapping robot made by Xenex Disinfection Services is used in over 40 universities and hospital studies, and kills the coronavirus causing virus SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces, according to a news release.

Panther officials say LightStrike is being used to disinfect player and public areas at the Bank Of America Stadium in uptown Charlotte, and was used before fans entered the stadium on October 4th.

Ed Levins, the Carolina Panthers Director of Security and Infection Control Officer, says, “Our goal, when we first started working on the infectious disease response plan for this stadium, was to make sure that this was the safest possible stadium in the NFL.”

Levins continues by saying, “What we found-out about the opportunities that existed with UV operations, was that the Xenex product was exactly what we were looking for; that it is the best thing for our players, so they could feel safe; that we were doing everything possible to make them feel comfortable coming back in here. We also want our fans to feel like this is the safest place and the cleanest place that they could come to enjoy a football game.”

According to studies published by different universities and hospitals, LightStrike is not only proven to get rid of SARS-CO-V-2, but also ebola, MRSA, SARS, as well as other viruses.
