CDC Vaccine Advisors to Vote on Vaccine Authorization for Kids Ages 5-11

Vaccine advisors with the CDC are in the midst of a meeting to discuss whether or not to administer the Coronavirus vaccine to children ages 5 to 11. According to the Biden administration, millions of children’s doses of the Pfizer vaccine are being shipped from the company to distribution centers across the country to go to pharmacies and pediatrician’s offices if the emergency use authorization is passed. The advisory committee on immunization practices is voting on that topic today and if CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signs off on the recommendation, shots could be administered as soon as tomorrow.

About 28 million children in the age group would be eligible to receive the vaccination and according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children made up a quarter of all new cases of the virus last week. Last Friday, the FDA authorized the vaccine for the age group and said the benefits of the vaccine outweigh it’s risks.
